About the site
This is a local community website for residents and visitors to the village of Embsay and the neighbouring hamlet of Eastby. The Posts page is a constantly updated blog with news, updates, family notices, general interest and history articles, with other specific pages providing details, contacts and dates for essential services, local businesses and events in and around the villages. There is also a Village History page and below, a short introduction if you are new to the area.

About our villages
Embsay is paired with its close neighbour Eastby, forming the civil parish of Embsay with Eastby falling within the Craven district of North Yorkshire. The two villages are situated immediately to the south of Barden Moor on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and two miles north of the market town of Skipton.
Embsay Crag is a well-known landmark, a rock formation perched just north of Embsay and marks the start of the moor. Embsay Reservoir sits at the foot of the crag and is popular with walkers, anglers and is home to the Craven Sailing Club. Both villages lie on the route of the 2018 & 2019 editions of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race, with the riders leaving Eastby to climb the short but testing Côte de Barden Moor. Embsay is home to a thriving Cricket Club with 2 senior teams and a pitch surrounded by wonderful scenery.
The Bolton Abbey Estate, Priory and Strid Woods are close by and Embsay is well known as being home to the multi-award winning Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway, one of Britain’s historic Heritage Railways. There are a small number of holiday cottages and guest houses in the villages as well as two pubs, two cafes, a village store & post office, two churches with the busy Village Institute home to numerous activities and events. A local bus service connects both villages to Skipton.
As Yorkshire becomes increasingly popular with filmmakers, Eastby and Embsay have recently been visted by 3 productions – The ABC Murders with John Malkovich and Rupert Grint, Dark River starring Ruth Wilson and featuring Sean Bean and Emily with Emma Mackey and Adrian Dunbar. Time for a YORKSHIREWOOD sign on the crag?
