Under 11’s
We travelled to Earby and put in a great performance. The homeside won the toss and elected to field. We made 102-6 in our 20 overs with a net score of 254. Henry Pighills, batting at No 9, top scored with a super knock of 29no to go with 14 from Jack Lovell and 11 from Archie Ogden. The others chipped in with useful runs. In their reply of 54-5 net score 214, no Earby player recorded double figures. Adam Lovell took 2-7, Hugo Brookfield-Eddison 1-8 and Rupert Smith 1-4 were the successful bowlers. This win puts the lads in a “heady” third place in the table.
1st XI
The cup game at Darley last Thursday evening, didn’t go our way. We won the toss and elected to bat and on a damp wicket struggled to 105-7. Only Caspar Bean 48 and Harry Ayrton 15 reached double figures as we posted 105-7 in our 16 overs.
The Darley side who sit in second spot in Division 7 were being held until No 4Adam Walker took control of proceedings. He smashed 4×6 4×4 in a 21-ball knock of 42. It was 98-3 when he departed and a comfortable victory was achieved by 7 wickets in the 12th over. There were wickets for Paul Wormald, Caspar Bean and Chris Stone.
Moving onto Saturday we travelled to Thirsk 2nds for a top of the table clash. The picturesque ground sits in the middle of the race course. We won the toss and elected to field. We had them 34-3 and they commendably progressed to 187-6 before they closed on 199-9. Haroon Ali took 4-41, Sam Arkwright 2-50 with a wicket apiece for Hammaad Hussain and Tom Robinson.
Our reply got off to a flyer with 90 for the first wicket where Mo Saghir was run out for 52. His opening partner, Tom Bailey, went for 41 with the score on 106. Jack Kitching, 32, and Haroon 30 kept the momentum going. We reached 182-7 with the overs dwindling. However, not to worry as Tom Robo 20no and Ben Keane 11no saw us to the points by 3 wickets with just 3 balls to spare – PHEW!
The 19 points gleaned means we are now 24 points clear of Thirsk 2nd who remain in second spot.
2nd XI
Studley Royal 4th were the visitors to Shires Lane on Saturday. They lost the toss and were asked to go first. But for an obdurate innings of 49 by opener Andy Huetson which took 103 balls their finishing total would have been a lot lower than 112. Caspar Bean took 3-19, Paul Wormald 2-22, Scott Robinson 1-6 and Gareth Wooler 1-31. In addition, there were three run outs from some smart fielding.
In our successful 7 wicket reply, Caspar made 32, Gareth 18, Bob Bateman 16 and a fine 23no from new recruit David Hird. Victory came in the 26th over.
That win puts us 21 points clear of Pannal 3rds whose game was surprisingly abandoned with them only getting 8 points.
