Barret Cup

Tuesday 17th

Embsay won their first round of the Barrett Cup tie by beating Helperby 2nds, and the weather, by 10 wickets. The visitors batted first and made 94-1 in their 16 overs. Caspar Bean was the successful bowler taking 1-15 off 3 overs.

Embsay’s intentions were shown from the first ball which Moshin Saghir slapped through the covers for 4. Opening partner Sam Arkwright joined in the fun and victory was achieved in 8.5 overs. Sam finished with 48no (3×6 4×4) and Moshin 38no (1×6 5×4).

In the next round we are away to Thirsk 2nds on Tuesday 31st May. At this time we are assuming that the game will be played at South Kilvington because of an evening race meeting at Thirsk.

Nidderdale League

Saturday 21st

1st Team

The 1st XI travelled to Sharow, nr Ripon, and pulled off a victory from the jaws of defeat. We won the toss and asked the homesters to go first. We whipped the openers out for 14 and then their captain threatened to run riot. However, he was out for 36. One of their players scored a 77 ball 50 and another 25 before we wrapped up the tail to leave them 169-9. Haroon Ali claimed 3-34, Sam Arkers 3-57, Sam Keane 2-13 and Hammaad Hussain 1-24. In our reply, in form Morgan Davies went for 1, Ben Keane 1, Haroon Ali 26 and Moshin Saghir for 53 (7×4 3×6). After 23 overs we were 118-7 and on the ropes. At this point Sam Keane was joined by Hammaad and the pair set about repairing things. Initially they were aiming for a bonus point for getting to 125. They continued on, getting another bonus point at 150 in the 35th over, all time getting closer to their target. With 10 balls to go Hammaad smashed a six to get us over the line. Sam took 64 balls to get to 25 not out and Hammaad 52 balls to reach 26 not out. To say the lads were cock-a-hoop is an understatement. The win takes us to the top of the Division Four.

2nd Team

Meanwhile the 2nd XI was at home to 9-man Killinghall 2nd with the match ball sponsored by Joanne Riley-Ratcliffe of Prembiz Ltd. Last week the visitors thumped Knaresborough Forest 2nd. by scoring 317-1 in their 40 overs – and both players who scored centuries we playing against us. The two took the score to 42 in the 15th over when Josh Robinson had one of them caught by Mark Walton for 17. Caspar Bean chipped in with 3 wickets with the third being the other opener for a subdued 18. From there we kept things under control with some tight bowling and excellent fielding which restricted them to 75-8 in the 32nd over. Josh finished with 4-14, Casper 3-17 and the other wicket fell to Paul Wormald whose magical air ball bamboozled the batsman for him to finish with 1-6

In reply Caspar went for a duck in the first over. This was Killinghall’s only success and Nathan Barrett smashed 50 not out off 29 balls (9×4) to go with Gareth Woolers 20 not out as we cantered home by 9 wickets. The win takes us back to the top of Division Eight, level on points with Pannal 3rd but with a better run rate.

Fixtures

This Saturday sees the 1st Xi at home to Lofthouse and Middlesmoor with the ball sponsored by Stuart Pope. The 2nd XI faces a top of the table clash at Pannal 3rds who play at Scotton village.
