Mixed fortunes!
1st TEAM
The 1st team were away to Sessay 3rds who play their games at Thornton-le-Moor. The hosts won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. They struck an early blow when Joe Holt went for a duck in the first over. The score went to 43 when Mo Saghir was unlucky to be run out by the bowler deflecting the ball onto the stumps with Mo out of his ground for 19. Josh Robinson followed for 20 before skipper Morgan Davies joined Haroon Ali. The pair put on 74 for the 4th wicket where the former was run out for 46. Haroon made 41 to leave the score at 144-5 in the 23rd over. Tom Robinson made 16, which lead to a 7th wicket partnership of 25 by Sam Arkwright who made 20 and Sam Keane. The latter went for 19 at 205 and the last two wickets only added another 5 to see us 210 all out in the last over.
The Sessay innings got off to a solid start putting on 128 for the first wicket. Their skipper played the anchor role before being 4th out for 66 which left the score at 179-4 in the 33rd over. Only one more wicket fell as the homesters got home by 5 wickets with 9 balls to spare. The also benefitted from 26 extras, which included 12 wides! On the bowling front Sam Arkwright took 2-38 and there were wickets for Hammaad Hussain, Sam Keane and Tom Robinson. We picked up 7 bonus points.
2nd TEAM
The 2nd team entertained Pannal 3rds at Shires Lane, won the toss and decided to bat first, We set of at a gallop and had reached 61 when the first wicket fell in the 10th over – Gareth Wooler going for 38. His partner, Casper Bean was next to go for 22 with the score on 79. Enter Rory Dollard. He smashed the ball to all parts making a superb 123 which included 8 sixes and 11 fours. When he was 8th out the score was 252. Rory and Harry Ayrton, 32, put on 108 for the 5th wicket. The innings closed on 260-9.
Pannal openers put on 33 before Ollie Riley-Radcliffe struck. Wickets then fell art regular intervals to leave them 79-6 with opener S Collings making 58 before being deceived by Paul Wormald’s flighted ball! Their skipper made 38 to be only the second person into double figures as the innings closed on 144 in the 38th over. Gareth Wooler 2-7 was the most successful bowler aided by Ollie Riley-Radcliffe 2-29 Paul Wormald 2-30 and wickets for Casper Bean and Harry Ayrton plus two run outs. One has to make mention of 13year old Thomas Mountain our wicket keeper. His concentration levels are exceptional and he saw only three byes past him, and he also took a good catch. We picked up 20 points for the win and sit second in the table.
FIXTURES
Saturday sees the 1st XI at home to Newby Hall with the match ball sponsored by Paul Barwick. The 2nd XI are away to Bishop Monkton.
