The weather has had a big impact on our cricket this week. The juniors have tried three times to play their final match – all to no avail!

The 1^st XI’s game away to Ripley was called off mid-morning on Saturday. We get 8 points for that; however, leaders Walton Park did manage some play and got an extra two points compared to us so now the gap between first and second is 14 points. That is a similar margin between us and Ripley in third spot.

Burton Leonard 2nds were keen to travel and play despite weather concerns. We won the toss and put them in and they had reached 43 for 3 when rain stopped play. When the rain stopped and the sun came out some players were keen to start again! Wiser heads inspected the wicket and knew that no further player would be possible before Wednesday even if it stopped raining. So, tea was had, then everybody went home or to the pub. We started the game with possibly the youngest opening attack, 14-year-olds Ben Jolly and Thomas Mountain. Thomas finished with 2 for 14 off five overs and Ben 0 for 11 off five overs. The other wicket was taken by Paul Wormald for 16 runs. Stephen Speak was at his miserly best. Although wicketless he only conceded three runs off five overs.

The weather has had a detrimental affect on our league position. We sit in fourth place, 42 points behind leaders Killinghall 2nds who had a stunning nine wicket victory over second place Whixley 2nds.

Fixtures
Next Saturday the 1^st team are at home to Hampsthwaite with the match sponsored by Ellison Construction. The 2^nd team are away to Pannal 3rds who play at Scotton.
