The 2026 season got under way on Saturday, with the weather near perfect for cricket.
The 1st XI were at home to Whixley who won the toss and asked us to bat first. Sadly, we lost three wickets as we reached 24. A stand of 28 by Josh Robinson (8) and Harry West, our overseas player from Aussieland, pushed the score along. Harry was out for 23, with score on 60. Skipper Morgan Davies went for 4 to make it 80 for 7. Sam Arkwright was joined by his brother, George, and they took the score to 123 for 8 with Sam going for 40. George followed two runs later for 18. A little bit of tail wagging by the last two batters took the score to 144.
The visitors made steady progress, although wickets fell at regular intervals to leave them on 71 for 7. This became 118 for 8, then 132 for 9. Unfortunately, the last wicket would not fall so we lost by one wicket.
New recruit, Josh Hobson took 2 for 21, Andrew Foulds 2 for 22 and Josh Robinson 2 for 24. We received 6 points.
The match was sponsored by Andrew Bingham and Steve Ryder – RYLO Freight Services Ltd.
The 2nd XI travelled to Blubberhouses 2nds, we won the toss and 40 overs later they reached 280 for 7. Opener William Haines scored a superb 146 which included 11 6s and 12 4s. Ben Jolly and Gareth Wooller were the better bowlers. We opened with 45 and the second wicket fell at 61. Opener Gareth was joined by Ben Jolly and the pair put on 153 for the 3rd wicket where the former went for a splendid 117 which included 3 6s and 16 4s. From there we only added 20 runs for the loss of four wickets. Ben was out for 57 as we closed on a creditable 234 for 7. We receive 8 points.
