Embsay Cricket Club – Cup Match Report

Second Team in Wath Cup semi final

First off I would like to thank those players who made the time and effort to travel nearly forty miles to the village of Spennithorne, which is near Leyburn, for a 6-30pm start 20 over game.

The home side won the toss and asked us to bat first. We made steady progress and had reached 78 for 5 when young Ben Jolly was joined by David Hird and they took the score to 86 when the latter was out. With four overs left, Ben cajoled his partners into running some risky singles. In doing so he panicked the homesters into some fielding errors. We closed on 110 for 9 with Ben run out for 22 off the last ball of the innings. Earlier Gareth Wooler had top scored with 24.

We started very well reducing them to 28 for 4. One of their openers became a thorn in our side and he held everything together as they headed to victory. He put on 48 for the 5th wicket and an undefeated 36 for the 6th wicket. The opener ended on a chance-less 46 not out and they reached the winning post 10 balls to spare. Gareth Sharpe took 2 for in his four overs and there were was a wicket apiece for Matt Buckmaster and Gareth Wooler.

A super effort against a side from the Division above us.
