FIRST TEAM
Last week I was tasked with finding out if we had ever chased down a score of 300. The answer is no! The highest score we have ever chased down was 282 when we beat Lofthouse and Middlesmoor in 2022, at their ground.
On behalf of the Club, I would like to congratulate Ben (Keane) on his marriage to Ruth on Saturday.
We entertained Thornton Watlass at the Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour sponsored ground. We restricted them to 125 for 6, however they put on 55 for the seventh wicket – 180 for 7 before we snaffled the last three wickets for eight runs. Those last three wickets would a crucial outcome on the game! Stryan Mackenzie took 3 for 41, Jack Kitchen took 2 for 25, Haroon Ali 3 for 34 and Hammaad Hussain 2 for 31.
We opened with 33 for the first wicket where Tom Robinson went for 21, The other opener Tom Mountain again did the job he was asked to do and stick around as long as he could. He made a super 54 to go with skipper Jack’s 41. We reached the last over needing nine to win, remember the crucial eight runs they scored at the end of their innings. Sadly, we couldn’t emulate them and closed on 181 for 8. We remain in eighth place in the division.
This week we are away to Whixley 1st XI.
SECOND TEAM
The 2nd XI made the trip to Whixley 2nd XI, and it proved to be very fruitful. The side included five juniors and one of them, 16-year-old
Ben Jolly pulled off a fantastic innings of 79 opening the innings. In fact only he and fellow opener, Matt Buckmaster who made 17, managed to reach double figures. The addition of 36 extras certainly helped the cause as we made153 for 8 in our 40 overs.
It was a similar story when the homesters replied. One opener made 69 and the other 15 and they were the only two batters to reach double figures. They received 25 extras and were all out for 131 in the 32nd over. Skipper Paul Wormald had the best bowling figures taking 2 for 15 off five overs. Veteran Dave Mountain again deceived with his bowling taking 3 for 28 off 10 overs whilst Matt had 3 for 41 and Ben rounded off a good game by claiming 2 for 41.
We sit on top of Division Six two points ahead of Crakehall, four ahead of Blubberhouses and nine in front of Ben Rhydding.
This week we entertain Ouseburn 2nds at the Robinson Memorial field.
