Embsay Cricket Club – Match Reports

FIRST TEAM

The 1st XI entertained Leaders Harrogate 3rds at the Robinson Memorial Field. We won the toss and decided to field first. Steady bowling helped to restrict them to 153 for 6. Then a partnership of 43 got them to 196 for 7, and the eighth wicket added 7. Somewhere around here would be a gettable total. However, the visitors had other ideas and 107 for the last two wickets which took them to 310 all out. Jack Kitching was our best bowler with 4 for 59. Struan Mackenzie and Sam Arkwright took a couple of wickets apiece and Hammaad Hussain one. Unfortunately, we gave away 41 extras.

We lost a couple of wickets getting to 21, then two more in the fifties. As we have seen over the past few weeks, Thomas Mountain was not giving his wicket away. He added 59 with Haroon Ali who made 37, and 51 with Same Keane who scored 29. After adding 40 with Tom Robinson, he was adjudged lbw for a 116 ball 60. The score was 217 for 8. Another five runs were added before Tom was stumped for 32. Despite losing by 88 runs we put up a very spirited fight. We drop to 10th in the table, and this week travel to Knaresborough Forest who are second in the table!h in the table.

SECOND TEAM

The 2nd XI were up against Middleham/Masham 2nd with the game being played at Masham. We won the toss and chose to bat. Matt Buckmaster fell for 16. Then Nathan Barrett and Danny Horne put together a healthy partnership before the latter was out for 75. Mark Walters came and went for 4. Gareth Sharpe joined Nathan, and they took the score to 267 for 3 with Nathan making 98 not out and Gareth 45 not out.

In reply the homesters were always behind the rare required and they closed on 184 for 9. Highlights for us were Gareth 3 for 29, Ben Jolly 3 for 55, Paul Wormald 1-44 and two superb catches in the deep, plus first senior wickets for Hayden Barrett (1 for 9) and Zac Sharpe (1 for 4). We remain in second place, just three points behind leaders Crakehall 2nds who have a free week this week due to Pateley Bridge 2nds pulling out of the league. This week we entertain Bolton Abbey 2nds at the Billy Bobs Ice Cream sponsored ground.

Ball Sponsors this week are Roger Tiffany Ltd and Val & Terry Jameison.
