The 1st XI entertained Masham at the Robinson Memorial Field on Saturday. They won the toss and decided to bat first. They got off to a disastrous start and quickly found themselves 24 for 5, with Hammaad Hussain taking four of the wickets to fall. A mini recovery saw them struggle to 86 for 8. We were held up by a ninth wicket partnership of 74. The innings closed on 160 for 9. Hammaad finished with 4 for 35, Sam Arkwright 2 for 27, Moshin Saghir 2 for 50 and Haroon Ali 1 for 37.
We made a steady start with Nathan Barrett anchoring the innings. When Nathan was out for 70, we stood at 144 for 5 – 17 to win. We lost our skipper for five to make it 149 for 6. Haroon 11no and Tom Robinson 9no took us to the winning post in the 32nd over. A welcome win which yielded 19 points to take us up to 9th place in the table.
This week we travel to Burnt Yates, hoping to continue in the winning vein.
SECOND TEAM
The 2nd XI were over at Ripley 2nds and decided to field first after winning the toss. Their opener, Karl Bolton made 70 before falling to Gareth Wooler. The two or three decent knocks to help them 169 for 6 in their overs. Matt Buckmaster took 1 for 32 and Gareth finished with 5 for 27 off eight overs.
Whet can one say about our reply? It was stunning. Gareth 64no and Caspar Bean 85no saw us to a fantastic ten wicket triumph in the 29th over. We stay top of the table, 2 points clear of Crakehall 2nds, whom we play on 6th September at their place.
