A mixed bag…
The 1st XI travelled to Darley and figured in a nail-biting game. We won they toss and asked the homesters to go first. A couple of quick wickets reduced them to 24 for 2. From there it was a bit of a slog as the next five batsmen made reasonable scores to take them to 198 for 6. Two more quick wickets restricted them to 211 for 8 in their 45 overs. Haroon Ali took 3 for 48, Sam Arkwright 3 for 72 and there was a wicket each for Struan Mackenzie and Hammaad Hussain.
We also lost a couple of wickets early. Moshin Saghir made 44 before departing with the score at 97 for 4. Skipper Morgan Davies then rallied the rest of the troops with Struan making 19 in a partnership of 56. Hammaad helped the score to 210 where he was ninth out. Needing two to win Morgan was stumped for 72 to leave us 1 run short – a gut-wrenching result! We managed nine bonus points but fall to next to bottom in the table.
The 2nd XI entertained Ripley 2nd’s at Shires Lane. After losing their first wicket with the score on 4, they rebuilt and had reached 66 when the second wicket fell. From there it was all down hill at wickets tumbled and they were all out for 110. Jago Bean claimed 6 for 17 in a splendid ten over spell. Ben Jolly, Paul Wormald and Henry Ellison took a wicket apiece.
We lost Gareth Wooler at 21, and Sam Keane at 46 in the 16th over. Thomas Mountain and Maaz Nayyar made hesitant starts before settling down and producing a match winning stand of 65. Maaz made 44 not out from 58 balls and Thomas 22 not out from 68 balls. A very satisfying eight wicket win which keeps us in sixth place in the table.
The under 11’s were in action twice during last week. First, they took on Earby u11s at Shires Lane and won by 56 runs. We scored 85 for 4 (net 265) with Billy Collins making 15, Rueben Barrett 11 and Arthur Dollard 9. In their innings of 64 all out (net 209) Alex Thornborrow claimed 2 for 1 and Percy Buckmaster 2 for 6.
On Thursday they travelled to Sutton u11’s and were victorious by 90 runs. We restricted them to 22 for 6 (net 192) with Billy Collins taking 2 for 1. In our successful reply, Hudson Meeking made 16, Billy and Jessica Hudson 15 each and Ollie Parker 13. We sit third in the table just two points behind leaders Upper Wharfedale u11’s.
This week the 1st XI entertain Whixley with match sponsors Ellison Construction and Crag & Co Accountancy.
