FIRST TEAM
The 1st XI travelled to Burnt Yates looking to build on last weeks welcome win. The homeside won the toss and asked us to go first. Sadly, it didn’t work out for us as we were knocked over for 72 in the 17th over. Only two players got into double figures – skipper Morgan Davies made 27 and Mo Saghir 11.
In all fairness our opponents didn’t fare much better than us. At one stage they were rocking at 59 for 7. Their keeper dug in and guided them to a three-wicket victory in the 19th over. Hammaad Hussain took 3 for 16, Sam Arkwright 2 for 12 and Haroon Ali 2 for 35.
The three points earned keeps us in ninth place.
SECOND TEAM
Meanwhile the 2nd XI entertained Blubberhouses 2nds at the Robinson Memorial Field. After losing the toss we were asked to go first. We made a positive start and were 67 when the first wicket fell. We made steady progress and reached 196 for 8 off our forty overs. Matt Buckmaster led the way with 50, Josh Robinson made 47, Sam Keane 33, Caspar Bean 20 and there was a fine knock of 24 from Tom French who was making his first appearance of the season.
As the players were taking tea the promised rain arrived and spoilt things. With no let up in the weather the match was abandoned. We receive 13 points which drops us to second spot, five points behind Crakehall who finished their match. We visit Crakehall for a top of the table clash next Saturday.
Match Sponsors for Saturday are Letty & Brandon Keane; and Jo and Phil Taylor.
