SATURDAY 5th July

First Team
Thornton Watlass were the visitors to the Robinson Memorial Field, sponsored by Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour, on Saturday.
The weather was unkind in that it rained all morning, and into the afternoon. Both teams were keen to play, however by 3pm conditions were no better, so the match was abandoned with each side receiving 8 points. We remain in 9th place in the table.

Second Team
The 2nd XI travelled over Blubberhouse in a very heavy drizzle, which made one wonder if any play would be possible. By the time Killinghall was reached it was blue skies all the way. We won the toss and invited them to bat first. They enjoyed an opening stand of 101, which they built on to reach 160 for 5. An unbeaten partnership of 32 took them to 192 for 5 at the end of their 40 overs. George Kean took 2 for 23, Gareth Wooler 2 for 45 and Caspar Bean 1 for 43.

They were adept using the big gaps in the field, which will be one of the largest outfields in the League. We made 45 for the first wicket, then it was 102 for 2, 113 for 3, 158 for 4 and 163 for 5. Skipper Nathan Barrett was joined by Caspar Bean, and they nurdled there way to 188 where Nathan was run out for 71. The seventh pair could only add another two as closed on 190 for 6. We drop to ninth in the Division.

WATH CUP QUARTER FINAL

Tuesday evening saw Birstwith 2nd XI and Embsay 2nd XI clash for the second time after the first attempt was washed out last week.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Ben Jolly bowled one of the openers first ball. The 2nd wicket pair enjoyed a partnership of 34 before their top scorer was toppled by Ben. He got the 3rd wicket to fall for the addition of one run. From there it was the Thomas Mountain show. He took four wickets in one over as they collapsed. He added another two wickets to give him match figures of 6 for 8 from 3 overs. Hayden Barrett took the last wicket to fall as they closed on 58 all out.

We suffered a similar fate to them as we lost Gareth Wooler first ball. David Dawson and skipper Nathan Barrett progressed the score to 53 where the former went for 29 (5×4 1×6). We reached our target shortly after, with Nathan 24no and Gareth Sharpe 1no.

We entertain Spennithorne and Harmby 1st XI in the semi-final, on a date to be advised.
