First Team
The 1st XI entertained league leaders Thornton-le-Moor at the Robinson Memorial Field sponsored by Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour on Saturday. They were hoping for the same result as when they beat then leaders Newton-le-Willows when they were leaders. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way.
With a slightly weakened side, three 2nd XI players being drafted in, they lost the toss and had to watch as the visitors hammered 325 for 4 in their overs. The main damage being a third wicket partnership of 149 by M Mierzwinski 127 (21×4 2×6) and G Bramley who finished with 98 not out (12×4 1×6). Sam Arkwright and Tom Robinson claimed two wickets apiece.
In reply we soon found ourselves 22 for 2. We staged a recovery to 130 for 5. Sadly, the last five wickets only added 10 runs. Skipper Morgan Davis scored 57, Struan Mackenzie 32 and Jack Kitching 25. We received 4 points and remain in 10th place.
A couple of wins out of our last five games would help ease the relegation threat.
Second Team
The 2nd XI had a free week which allowed Ripon 2nds to jump above us, and we drop to 7th place in the table.
The 1st XI are away to Whixley on Saturday whilst the 2nd XI face a tricky match against Blubberhouse 2nds at Shires Lane.
The match sponsors are Mr & Mrs Mason (Oddacres Farm) and Paul Barwick.
