Springtime in the Nature Reserve
Here are some of the things to look out for this Springtime in the Nature Reserve:
- primroses, lesse celandines and snowdrops flowering
- ‘lambs tails’ on the hazel bushes
- mixed flocks of blue tits, great tits, coal tits and long-tailed tits, blackbirds, song thrushes and mistle thrushes
- goldfinches, bramblings, siskins, bullfinches, chaffinches, greenfinces
- nuthatch and treecreeper
- great spotted woodpecker (often sitting on the top of the tall larch tree just outside the reserve gate)
- frogs, toads and newts in the pond, particularly active in early evening after a sunny day, frogspawn in the pond
- possibly, kingfisher and heron at the pond and dipper and gray wagtail at the beck
- sparrowhawk
- tracks in the snow (if any)
- wrens, robins and mistle thrushes possibly singing
- robins, blackbirds and house sparrows carrying nesting material
