Our Creative Parish – Kerry Bowler

There is a lot of creativity in our community — shaped by the people who live, work, and imagine here every day. This series of articles celebrates the artists and creatives who call our parish home, from painters and makers to musicians, writers, and designers.

Kerry Bowler – Artist

Embsay based Kerry has been working as a professional artist for the last 18 years and has sold many paintings online, as well as through galleries, local shops & restaurants & contemporary arts fairs throughout the UK.

“Art has always been my absolute passion for as long as I can remember! It was always my favourite subject at school and always came naturally to me. I was always drawing or painting as a child! I did my A levels and went to Art College but didn’t become an artist immediately after leaving. A few years on & not being able to source any artwork I liked for my own home, I painted some canvases for myself, matching to my own colour schemes. Looking back, I don’t think these were very good, but family and friends would visit and be amazed I painted them. A few would ask me to paint canvases for them too!

The growth of the Internet and social media platforms helped immensely too! I decided to go for it and set up a website and started to have a go at selling my art on Ebay and other online art galleries too. It wasn’t easy at first & there were times business was very slow, but I’d get such a buzz when I made a sale and I still do to this day!”

Kerry’s beautiful work can be seen at the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Brasserie in Bolton Abbey and original artwork can be purchased at: https://www.colour-on-canvas.co.uk/
