Fundraising for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee) Afghanistan Crisis Appeal at Christmas

Collections on Christmas Eve, during and after the carol singing by the Elm Tree, and after the Crib and Midnight Communion services on Christmas Eve and the Christmas Day service at St Mary’s amounted to a magnificent £962.

The £651 for Manorlands included a generous donation from Heather and Bob on Main Street in lieu of family Secret Santa presents, £100 profit from the sweet stall and a donation from the Elm Tree Botanicals stall organised by Karen at the Elm Tree.

The £311 for the DEC Afghanistan Crisis Appeal means that two families of seven will be provided with a winter package with heating equipment, blankets and food that will prevent them from facing hunger and cold as the freezing winter sets in – temperatures are expected to drop to -12degreesC and a million children under the age of five are at risk of dying over the next three months. There will also be some money left over to provide food for ten days for a family who have lost their home.

A big thank you to everyone who gave so generously.

As Desmond Tutu, who died 26^th December, said, “Do your little bit of good where you are. It’s the little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
