1st XI

The first team entertained bottom of the division Helperby on Saturday. They won the toss and elected to bat. After 6 overs they found themselves on 15-3. A mini stand took the score to 42 where the next wicket fell. 15 runs later their opener miscued to Sam Keane having made 22 off 39 balls. The sixth wicket fell on the same score. Two more wickets fell before we got the wicket we wanted. Their No 6 batsmen had held us at bay for 53 balls before he holed out for 25. The No 10 batter hit a breezy 21 which took the score to 113 where the innings closed. Tom Robinson claimed 3-25, Haroon Ali 3-32 and Sam Arkwright 3-36 with Hammaad Hussain getting the other wicket at a cost of 16 runs. We set off like an express train and had reached 41 when Mo Saghir went for 26, off 13 balls, well caught by the bowler. His partner Joe Holt played a minor roll in the next partnership which progressed the score to 88 where he fell for 20 off 17 balls. Skipper Morgan Davies was in fine fettle and he and Struan Mackenzie, back with the Club after 10 years, took the score to 109-3. Sam Keane hit a four – scores level, and it was left to Morgan to see if he could hit a 6 to get to fifty. Sadly, the bowler bowled a wide and it was all over. Morgan was left stranded on 44 which included 3 sixes and 4 fours, as we cantered home by 7 wickets in the 15^th over.

That’s another 20 points in the bag which keeps us in first place. There were a few gasps when news filtered through that 2^nd placed Sessay 3rds had lost to Thirsk 2^nd, by three wickets in a high scoring game. That means we are 27 points clear with three games to play.

All Division 8 sides had a free week, so a reminder that the 2^nd team are 37 points ahead of Pannal 3rds.

Fixtures

This coming Saturday the 1^st XI travel to South Kilvington whilst the 2^nd XI are at home to Thirsk 3rds with the game sponsored by Andrew Bingham.
