First Team
Our journey to Thornton-le- Moor proved to be very fruitful. They won the toss and elected to bat. Only their wicket keeper offered much resistance – scoring 47 not out – as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. They were dismissed for 117 in the 33rd over. Moshin Saghir was the most successful bowler, taking 4 for 36. Andrew Foulds took 2 for 36 and there was a wicket apiece for Struan Mackenzie and Haroon Ali, plus two run outs.

Our chase got off to the worst possible start as sadly out of form Mo went for a duck to the second ball of the innings. There was no further hiccups as we stormed home by nine wickets in the 17th over. Andrew scored 57 not out (52 balls, 8 fours and 2 sixes) and Joe Holt made 54 not out (47 balls, 7 fours and 2 sixes).

The 20 points gleaned keeps us in second place, nine points clear of North Stainley. So, the second promotion spot goes down to the last week. We are at home to Raskelf and North Stainley entertain Sicklinghall. Our big fear is the weather – the forecast for the week is not very good for the Skipton area. Let us hope that the “weather god” plays fair and it is the same for the North Stainley area.

The final match is due to start at 12-30pm

Second Team
We entertained Champions Killinghall II at the Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour sponsored Robinson Memorial Field.

They won the toss and elected to bat first. Their opening partnership had put on 99 when 13-year-old Ben Jolly bowled R Schmidt for 40. We enjoyed another two successes fairly quickly to have them 110 for 3. After that wickets were hard to come by as they reached 210 for 6 in the 40 overs. Jago Bean was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 73. Paul Wormald took 1 for 63 and Ben 1 for 25. Mention must be made of Caspar Bean’s efforts with the ball. He bowled his ten overs “at the sharp end” at a cost of only 20 runs.

Our reply was on the back foot at 25 for 4, with three of the wickets being caught and bowled. Maaz Nayyar hit 35 (7 fours) to get the score to 65 for 5. We secured one bonus point as we reached 89-7. Young Ben showed true grit as he edged us towards another bonus point. Sadly, he fell for 24 (50 balls 2 fours) with us two shy of 100 and a second bonus point. Thankfully we gathered that point before closing on 105 in the 33rd over. Surprisingly Ben Rhydding lost at home so we are still in third, now 11 points clear of them.

This week the 1st XI are at home to Raskelf with the match sponsored by Ellison Construction. The 2nd XI are away to Burnt Yates II.

Both matches are due to start at 12-30pm.
