First Team
At the Billy Bob Ice Cream Parlour sponsored Shires Lane we entertained neighbours Bolton Abbey last Saturday. We won the toss and elected to bat first. A new opening partnership of Jack Kitching and Joe Holt made steady progress to 50 where the latter went for 22. Skipper Morgan Davies joined Kitch and progressed the score to 100 where Morgs went for 20. Kitch went for a well-constructed 60 to make it 132 for 4. From there each wicket made useful contributions until we reached 201 for 8 at the end of our 40 overs. Mo Saghir made 15, Haroon Ali 17, Struan Mackenzie 22, Tom Robinson 11 and Sam Keane 9 not out.
Their batters we kept under control and steady bowling saw them dismissed for 122 in the 36th over. Haroon took 3 for 20, Sam Arkwright 3 for 20, Struan 2 for 24 and Mo 2 for 27.
With some other results going our way, the 20 points gained moves us into second place in the table. Promotion is back in our control with just two games to go. Our resolve will be put to the test next Saturday as we travel to fifth placed Thornton-le-Moor who have won their last five games.
Second Team
The 2nd XI were away to Thirsk 3rds last Saturday and probably spent more time travelling than actually playing cricket. We won the toss and elected to field. They were shot out for 40 in the 21st over with skipper Paul Wormald taking 5 for 12 off 7 overs, Casper Bean 3 for 18 and George Keane 1 for 0. We took nine overs knocking off the runs without loss. Gareth Wooler and Casper Bean both scored 20 not out.
Promotion this season looks to be out of the question, although we are guaranteed a top four place, with us 22 points behind second placed Whixley. We entertain runaway leaders Killinghall 2nds – who have lost only one game all season – this week.
The Club would like to send huge congratulations to Zoe, our 1st team scorer, on the occasion of her marriage to Chris Bosher last Saturday.
