Cricket Club Match Reports

1st Team

The 1st XI entertained Lofthouse & Middlesmoor and the game turned out to be very similar to the one we lost at Sessay 3rds. They won the toss and decided to bat first. Their two openers got away to a fine start, putting on 110 for the first wicket. This was extended to 134-3 with both openers scoring 61 each. Their number 4 continued the run scoring, making 58, and they had reached 205-5 in the 37th over. They lost their last four wickets for just 9 runs to close on 214 all out (they only had 10 men). Sam Arkwright performed the hat trick and finished with 4-33 and there were 2 wickets each for Jack Kitching and Sam Keane and one for Haroon Ali.

It turned out that five of our first six batters got a good start, sadly no one able to go on and make the big score that was need. Mo Saghir 28, Nathan Barrett 23, Morgan Davies 22, Haroon 33 and Sam Arkers 30 being the main contributors. At 135-5 with 15 overs to go we were in with a shout of snatching the points. Sadly, the tail was unable to respond and we closed 33 runs short of our target of 214. We drop to second spot, three points behind Thirsk 2nds.

2nd Team

The 2nd XI travelled to Scotton to take on Pannal 3rds in a top of the table clash. The homesters won the toss and chose to bat. Whilst we only took one wicket, we had things under control as they reached 52 in the 20th over. After a drinks interval things started to unravel, whether it was something in the drink!!, I don’t know. In the next 10 overs we managed to snaffle 2 more wickets as they added 20 more runs. We dropped several chances and were made to pay in the last 10 overs as they double their score. Two batsmen were prepared to chance their arm, swinging at every ball, turning ones in twos and twos into threes. Our bowlers saw good balls hit for four as more chances went to ground. After 40 overs they were 144-4 – only two bowling bonus points picked up. There were two wickets for Casper and one each for Adam Harding and Josh Robinson.

Our reply was similar to theirs in that we made 55 in our first 20 overs for the loss of two wickets. Caspar Bean was joined by Adam and the two progressed the score to 79, where the latter was run out for 6. We lost another wicket at 94 at which point Rory Dollard came in. The two got into their stride and hit some stunning shots and a few risky ones that came off. With 14 needed off 7 overs, Rory went for 28. We reached our target in the 36th over for the loss of 5 wickets. Casper finished on 51no. The 17 points picked up keeps us on top of the table.
