Both teams duly followed the script. Both won and are champions of their respective divisions.

1st XI

The 1^st XI raced to an incredible total, batting first, over at Rainton. They smashed 308-5 off their 40 overs. This was surprising given the state of the wicket. The weather of the previous few days had left it soft although playable.

We lost Moshin Saghir for a duck without a run on the board. The next wicket fell at 94 where skipper Morgan Davies was dismissed for 40 of 42 balls (5×4 3×6).

Opener Joe Holt and Jack Kitching took the score to 154 where the former went for 81 off 72 balls (10×4 2×6). Haroon Ali joined Jack and the pair put on 96 in rapid fashion before Haroon was out for 55 off 35 balls (6×4 3×6). Nathan Barrett made 14 as the score progressed to 286-5. Sam Arkwright (5no) helped Jack as we closed on 308-5. Jack was left on 97no – a superb knock – off 74 balls (13×4 1×6). By comparison their innings was quite pedestrian. They managed 136, losing their last five wickets for only 25 runs. The wickets were shared between six bowlers with Hammaad Hussain leading the way with 2-16 followed by Sam 2-27, Haroon 2-33, Jack and Tom Robinson 1-22 and Joe 1-5.

2nd XI

Bishop Monkton II were the visitors to Shires Lane. They won the toss and decided to bat first. Whilst they were very solid in defence the two openers were somewhat devoid of scoring shots. With a couple of dropped catches it seemed as though we were never going to shift them. Even the wily skipper Paul Wormald struggled although his 10 over spell only cost 16 runs. Enter fourth bowler Gareth Wooler, in his third over, the 26^th, with the score on 56-0, he took out both openers. From there it was a procession of batsmen back to the pavilion. In nine overs they lost 7 wickets for the addition of only 22 runs and closed on 78 all out. Gareth finished with 7-12 off 7.2 overs and Adam Harding took 2-19 off 9 overs.

We had a youthful two openers, 14-year-old Ollie Radcliffe-Riley and 13-year-old Thomas Mountain.  The former was the first to go with the score on 36 in the 13^th over. He had made 18 and was out to a superb one-handed catch in the gully. Casper Bean joined Thomas and moved the score on to 67 where he was brilliantly caught by the bowler for 28 (5×4 1×6).

15-year-old Adam was next in and in 3 overs victory by 8 wickets was achieved, in the 22^nd over. Anchor, Thomas made 18no and Adam 10no.

A champagne day for both teams. The 1^st XI are 35 points clear of Sessay 3rds who could only manage 15 points in a rain affected game. Whilst the 2^nd XI are 38 points clear of Pannal 3rds who despite chasing us all season are not guaranteed promotion as they are only 2 points clear of Killinghall 2nds.

The final games of the season see the 1^st XI at home to Sessay 3^rd in a match sponsored by Bullough Cleaning Services, whilst the 2^nd XI end the season where they began, at Rainton 2nds.
