First XI
The 1st team popped over to Blubberhouses to take on Hampsthwaite. Skipper Morgan Davies won the toss and decided to bat. Mo Saghir and Joe Holt opened and took the score to 27 where the former was out for 20. Last week centurion, Joe, followed for 9 with the score on 44. Making his Saturday debut, Jack Beetham made 19, Jack Kitching 15 and Andrew Foulds 49 as the score progressed to 131 for 5. Morgan was joined by Haroon Ali and the score rapidly progressed to 230 at which point the latter was out for 41 (4 fours and 2 sixes). The innings closed on 242 for 6 with Morgan 57 not out (7 fours and 1 six) and Sam Arkwright 5 not out.
The homesters first wicket fell at 39 as did the second. This was followed by a partnership of 31 for the third wicket. From there the last seven wickets fell for the addition of 50 runs, with the final total being 125 all out. Our skipper used nine bowlers with Andrew taking 2 for 3, Jack 2 for 19 and Sam 2 for 29. The were also wickets for Haroon, Tom Robinson, Struan Mackenzie and Mo.
The twenty points collected for the win helps us into second spot in the table just two points behind leaders North Stainley who lost on Saturday. The first team are away again next Saturday as they visit Raskelf.
2ndXI
The 2nd team entertained Ripley 3rds at Shires Lane and on wining the toss the opposition’s captain surprisingly asked us to go first. Surprising in that he had asked if they could bat first due to them having a weakened team!
Run machine Gareth Wooler perished for 8 with the score on 18. Making his season’s debut Oliver Riley-Radcliffe followed with 14 to make it 31 for two. Caspar Bean and Nathan Barrett set about repairing the damage and put on 94 for the third wicket where the latter went for 30. Sam Keane came next and the score proceeded to 143 where Caspar went for a fine 66 (11 fours and 1 six). Youngster Thomas Mountain joined Sam and the scoring stuttered for six overs in which only 17 runs were scored. Sam rasped the nettle and 96 was added in the next 9 overs before he was bowled for a super 81 (10 fours and 4 sixes. There was still time to added 18 runs to take the final score to 257 for 5. Jago Bean hit 15 not out off 8 balls and Thomas was 9 not out.
Sam and Harry Ayrton took a wicket apiece to leave them 17-2 off five overs. A mini partnership of 30 came for the third wicket where Olliver cleaned bowled their main batsman for 27. Wickets then followed at regular intervals mainly to skipper Paul Wormald and finished with 4 for 12 off 10 overs. The innings closed on 82 as Oliver took the last two wickets in successive balls to end up with 4 for 22 off 5.2 overs.
With leaders Whixley 2nds losing at home to Killinghall 2nd, the 20 points we collected sees us leapfrog them into top spot just two points ahead of Killinghall 2nd.
Next Saturday we are at home to Kirk Deighton 2nds with the match sponsored by John Mason Printers.
There are no junior games this next week, however one of our u11 girls, Ellie Walters, played for Yorkshire u11 against Lancashire u11 in two T20 games last Wednesday. Ellie was in the opening batting pair for the second match and got them off to a good start of 36 for 2 after 6 overs. The match ended in a win for the White Rose girls by 11 runs after making 115 in their innings. Yorkshire also won the first game by two wickets chasing Lancashire’s 77.
