First Eleven

Wow, what a victory. We travelled to Tornton Watless to take on the third placed side in the League, and lowered their colours by three wickets. We won the toss and elected to field. We took wickets at regular intervals but they still got to 194 all out. I suppose 48 extras, which included 28 wides, didn’t help the cause. Haroon Ali took 3 for 32, Mo Saghir 3 for 50, Struan Mackenzie 2 for 21 and there was a wicket each for Josh Robinson and Hammaad Hussain.

In our reply, Mo made 46 off 21 balls including 3 fours and 5 sixes. He was first out with the score on 50!!!! Josh followed at 63 and skipper Morgan Davies went at 119 for 30, then Haroon scored 24, Struan 11. As we crept nearer out target, opener Nathan Barrett had been holding one end together. however, at 179 he was sixth out for 47 off 70 balls. Tom Robinson, 1, was next to go at 182. Sam Keane 6 not out and Harry Ayrton 10 not out saw us home in the 33rd over.

We remain in ninth place, despite taking twenty points and are now 39 points clear of a relegation spot.

Second Eleven

We entertained leaders Walton Park at Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour ground at Shires Lane. Last week we scored 85 for 9 in our overs. We did marginally better on Saturday, making 85 for 8 in our overs! They were clinical in their bowling with four bowlers bowling ten overs apiece with wickets shared. Chris Elliott took 2 for 6 in his ten overs. For us Casper Bean top scored with 36 before being run out. David Hird made 14 not out and they were the only two batters to reach double figures as Mr Extras chipped in with 14.

They took their time cruising to an eight-wicket victory in 18.2 overs. Jago Bean took 1 for 5 and Thomas Mountain 1 for 35. We remain in sixth place in the table. We are now 94 points clear of a relegation spot!

This week the 1st XI are looking for the scalp of leaders, Walton Park, on their visit to Shires Lane. The 2nd XI are away at Ripley 2nds.
