The 1st XI travelled to Masham on Saturday and sadly didn’t come away with
a victory. The homester’s won the toss and batted. They soon found themselves 1 for 2. They then got the score into the seventies and lost another two wickets. A fifth wicket partnership of 102 took the score to 176 for 5. This was pushed to 218 for six at the close of the innings, with 30 extras (including 22 wides). Sam Arkwright finished with 4 for 56 off 10 overs. There was also a wicket each for Hammad Hussain and Mo Saghir.
In reply we struggled to 51 for 5 with only Nathan Barrett (22) reaching double figures. We manged to score another 100 runs for the next five wickets with Ben Keane making 30, Sam 38, Tom Robinson 10 and Hammaad 19. We only used 36.4 overs of our allocated 45. We get six points for that and are ninth in the Division Two.
The 2nd XI entertained Knaresborough Forest 2nds at the Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour ground. We won the toss and elected to bat first. We made a slow start and had reached 55 in the 21st over when the second wicket fell. One of their opening bowlers finished with 1 for 20 off his 10 overs. We reached 75 in the 25th over, where the third wicket, Rory Dollard (13) fell. Sam Keane joined Caspar Bean, and they set about the bowlers with gusto. In a fourth wicket partnership of 140 they took the score to 215 for 3 at the innings close. Caspar had 10 fours and 3 sixes in a super knock of 94no whilst Sam hit seven fours in a supporting knock of 53no.
Their reply was in tatters after only 12 overs – 34 for 8! Matt Buckmaster took 5-19 and Ben Jolly 2 for 11 and Thomas Mountain 1 for 2 at this stage. Thomas’s wicket featured a brilliant catch by Harry Ayrton at long-on on the very edge of the field. Two of their senior players led a very mini revival and got the score to 71 when the ninth wicket fell followed six runs later by the tenth. They closed on 77 all out with Matt finishing with 5 for 19, Ben 2 for 11, Mazz Nayyar 2 for 12 and Thomas 1 for 20. The points tally of 20 sees us sit on top of the division albeit with a very narrow better run rate than Crakehall.
Next Saturday the 1st XI travel over Blubberhouses to tackle bottom of the table, Hampsthwaite. The 2nd XI are at home again with Ripley 2nds visiting the Robinson Memorial Field.
The ball sponsors are Ellison Construction Ltd and His Grace the Duke of Devonshire.
