Embsay Cricket Club – Match Reports

Embsay 1st XI

The first team made their way to Thornton Watlass which is between Masham and Bedale. The homesters won the toss and elected to field first. WE lost our first two wickets getting to 16. Skipper Morgan Davies was joined by Jack Kitching and the score progressed to 71 where the former went for 34. From this point the innings was dominated by Jack. He put on 62 with Mo Saghir, 27,

35 with Sam Arkwright,6, and 16 with Haroon Ali which saw us reach 184 for 6. Struan Mackenzie, 23, and Kack added 46 for the seventh wicket which included Jack reaching his century. The innings closed on 269 with Jack making a superb 133 not out, off 95 balls, which included 12 fours and 12 sixes.

During the innings the umpire pinged us three times for running down the wicket, which meant that the opposition were awarded 15 penalty runs. This effectively meant they started their innings at 15 for none. They too had a dominant batsman as their skipper Dan Nicholson kept them very interested in passing our total. When he was finally dismissed for 128, 16 fours and 6 sixes, their score stood at 258 for 9. Thankfully their last man only lasted two balls, and we had won a pulsating game by just 11 runs. Struan finished with 5 for 64 and Sam 3 for 27. Their total included 59 extras – in addition to their penalty runs there was 29 wides.

The 20 points received sees us remain in eighth place but close the gap on the team above us to 6 points.

Embsay 2nd XI

The second team were due to entertain Whixley 2nds at the Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour grounds. They rang on Friday afternoon to inform us that couldn’t raise a team and so conceded the game. The 20 points received sees us remain at the head of the division.

This week sees the first team entertain Knaresborough who are top of the table and in a rich vein of form at the moment. All the encouragement needed to lower their colours!

The second team should have been at Pateley Bridge 2nds. However, they withdrew before the season started so we have a free week.

This week’s match ball sponsors are R McDowell Haulage and Andrew Bingham.

On Tuesday the 2nds make a second attempt to fulfil their Wath Cup game at home to Killinghall 2nds. The match, a 20/20 competition starts at 6-30pm.
