EwE Environmental Action Group – Top Tip

Holme Grown Community Garden in Eastby is a fantastic example of a project which has transformed the landscape to create a wildlife haven.

Instead of bare green fields there are now a diverse range of habitats. In just four years they have developed a large pond, a wildflower meadow, and a woodland area planted with native species and containing wood piles and areas of long grass. With such biodiversity it’s inevitable that wildlife has increased.

Alongside this there is an orchard and growing areas for veg, fruit and flowers. All this is done by volunteers who produce tasty produce using the no dig method and with no use of  pesticides. All this is set in a stunning landscape with views of the distant hills and the sound of the birds all around. Right now it’s looking really beautiful and bounteous as you can see from the photos taken this week so don’t miss the chance to visit this inspiring project . I’m sure we will all be inspired to see what we can do in our own gardens to welcome nature in.

It will be open to the public this Saturday 7th June with other stunning gardens in Eastby and on Sunday 8th June other gorgeous gardens will be open in Embsay. Maps available from the Paper Shop.
