Embsay Cricket Club – Match Reports

First Team

The 1st XI were away at Ouseburn on Saturday. They won the toss and asked us to bat first. Led by 54 from skipper Morgan Davies we totalled 178 all out in 34.2 overs. Mr Extras was the second highest scorer with 22 which included 21 wides.

The homesters responded with 180 for 2 in 34.5 overs, which included 37 extras of which 26 were wides. We received five points and remain in 9th place in the table.

Second Team

The 2nd XI entertained Birstwith 2nd’s at the Robinson Memorial Field, sponsored by Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour. We won the toss and asked them to go first. They had reached 138 for 3 before losing five wickets for the addition of just 11 runs, to close on 149 for 8 off their 40 overs. On the bowling front Christopher Stone took 4 for 24, Caspar Bean 2 for 4 (off six overs) and there was a wicket apiece for Ben and Rees Jolly.

Our reply was led by Nathan Barrett who made 90 not out from 85 balls (11×4 3×6). He put on 68 for the third wicket with Ben who made 17 not out. Caspar chipped in with 26, putting on 51 with Nathan for the second wicket. We finished on 153 for 2 off 31.1 overs. We received 19 points and move up to fifth spot in the table.

The 1st XI are in a three battle with Burnt Yates and West Tanfield as we endeavour to stay in Division Two. This week we entertain Masham at Shires Lane.

The 2nd XI travels to top of the table Wath & Melmerby 1st XI. Match sponsors are Harry West in memory of his grandfather, Noel ‘Butch’ West, who passed away recently and Letty & Brendan Keane.
