COP (Conference of the Parties) 29 is being held in Azerbaijan now. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has showed his commitment to combating the climate crisis.

“There is no national security
There is no economic security
There is no global security without climate security.”

He has already made some inroads:
The ban on onshore wind power has been scrapped.
No new gas and oil licenses will be issued.
The last coal power plant has closed.
Funding is now available for carbon capture.

He is about to launch the Global Clean Power Alliance – a political alliance of countries committed to accelerating the clean energy transition.
Now we need to hold him to these promises, and we can do that by signing a petition that Friends of the Earth is asking us to support outlining how we will be on track for net zero emissions by 2050. It has 5 demands of the UK government for a Big Climate Plan.

1. Keeps its promises to cut carbon emissions
2. Investing in local, national and international climate action.
3. Ensure everyone can live in a warm home powered by cheap, clean energy.
4. Deliver affordable reliable public transport and clean air.
5. Provide investment and training for well paid green jobs.

The clock is ticking on Keir Starmer to replace the weak climate plans of the past. Demand a bold and fair climate plan.
