Holme Grown Eastby – Spring Newsletter

One of our new initiatives this season, is to keep our supporters informed of things on site through quarterly newsletters. This one being our very first. Our volunteers gain so much on site, from the small and gentle to larger scale developments. We’d really like to share our news. Please use this link to subscribe to receive our newsletters. Firstly, we have a few thank yous! We are creating an area for local families and young children to get involved in growing, whilst also enjoying all the benefits our site has to offer. Local families will be able to use the plot to grow family friendly produce and work together to tend it when the site is open. There will be enough space for children to roam, get their hands dirty, dig soil, enjoy the elements and watch the farm animals in the neighbouring field. Just turn up!

We have already started on the project – a willow fedge has been planted so that we can harvest young sticks to use for projects in the future, we’ve planted a beech hedge along one side, fenced the area with rabbit netting and outlined the beds. Still to come, a picnic bench, a children’s potting shed, paling fencing, recycled plastic beds and a crab apple tree. Please do get in touch if you’d like to use this space – it’s free to enjoy!

Funding for this project comes from a Section 106 payment from the Shires Lane Development, administered by North Yorkshire Council and the Parish Council.

Good news from the National Lottery Community Fund!

We have received funding to create a shelter that will help us to facilitate small group activities on site. Please get in touch if you are interested in running something on site – we are thinking yoga, art, mindfulness, nature based activities. We hope to be running our own workshops too!
