An update on the homeless person who is sleeping rough in the East Lane bus shelter.
Gillian Alcock at the Parish Council has informed STREET LINK of the situation whose response is added below. Craven District Council have also replied to Gillian with the following response:
Will report to Homeless Housing by email and local police… Will rehome if the individual presents themselves in need, otherwise there is nothing they can do except to advise to move on.
STREET LINK
We are grateful that you have shown your concern and told us about a rough sleeper, this is often the first step to connecting people to the support they need. The location that you have told us you have seen someone sleeping rough in falls within the Craven District Council area.
What the local authority says it will do to respond the StreetLink alerts in this area:
The local authority would take the following action to assess and identify rough sleepers:
During Office hours:
a) Contact referrer for more details
b) Contact local agencies to identify if already working/known with rough sleeper and if necessary, request additional support
c) Contact with rough sleeper and carry out assessment (with additional support from agencies if required) and offer appropriate services.
Accommodation will only be provided following a risk assessment where the rough sleeper is identified as being vulnerable or ex-service personnel for a limited period pending a Single Service Offer or discharge of housing duty arising from a homelessness application. There is no direct access rough sleeper hostel accommodation in Craven and we seek direct access hostel provision outside of the district.
Out of Office hours: Please contact Craven’s Out of Hours Service delivered by Ryecare Tel: 01653 699392.

We will report on any further updates.
