Churches Count on Nature
St Mary’s church will be taking part again in the national ‘Churches Count on Nature’ event. This is an annual event in which churches across England and Wales are encouraged to monitor and celebrate the biodiversity in churchyards. This year, the Count is running between Saturday 6 and Sunday 14 June.
If you’d like to take part, members of the public are invited to join us in St Mary’s Churchyard for the session today at 11 June anytime between 3-5pm. Just come along and members of the church’s Eco Group will explain what to do – no experience or special knowledge necessary! There will be a local expert to help with identification on both days and refreshments will be available.
We are delighted that several classes from Embsay School will be joining us in specially arranged sessions during the week.
This will be our sixth year of data gathering, so we are building up a good knowledge of the flora and fauna in the churchyard.
This is timed to coincide with ‘Big Green Week’ 6-14 June 2026. This is a national initiative organised by the Climate Coalition in which people come together to take action for their communities, for nature and for the climate. This year the theme is ‘Together for good’. Look out for other events taking place nearby.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Apologies for the late posting of this event notice. This is the fault of this editor and not St Mary’s Church!
