1st XI
The first team travelled to Lofthouse and Middlesmoor on Saturday. The ground is akin to Cullingworth (short side boundaries) and Sand Lane (large slope)
They won the toss and elected to bat and we enjoyed a quick success with the score on 7. From there it was “leather chasing” as they plundered 282-3 off their 40 overs which included 13 sixes and 29 fours. Our bowling figures make dismal reading – Sam Kean 1-48 off 6 overs, Tom Robinson 1-65 off 10 overs and Hammaad Hussain 1-73 off 9 overs.
The only way to chase down a score like that is to “have a go” and see what happens, and that is just what did.
119 for the first wicket between Moshin Saghir and Joe Holt with the latter going for 57 (6×6 4×4). Moshin was next to go at 193, making a superb 91 (4×6 12×4). Skipper Morgan Davies went for 30 at the same score. At 211 we lost another two wickets, Ben Keane for 5 and Sam Keane for a duck. Tom Robinson went for 14 to leave the score 238-6. Watching from the other end was Sam Arkwright and he decided enough was enough! He smote 37 in quick succession, including 28 in one over! He finished on 60no (5×6 6×4) whilst his partner Struan Mackenzie was 10no (1×6 1×4) as we stormed home by 4 wickets in the 32nd over.
We earned 16 points which keeps us top, ahead of Sessay 3rds.
2nd XI
Second placed Killinghall 2nds were the visitors to Shires Lane. We went first after they won the toss and chose to field. Most batters chipped in with runs to see us reach 170-9 in our overs. Gareth Wooler top scored with 31, Adam Harding made 22 and Alan Robinson 17. Top score was Mr Extras with 34.
We reduced them to 72-7 which including a direct hit run out by 13-year old Ben Jolly. Their skipper was proving to be a stumbling block. It seemed as if he stayed there and farmed the bowling – which he was good at – they may spoil our party. However, with the score on 129, Adam produced a peach of a ball which yorked him for 58. This left the 10-man team’s score on 129-8. The last pair put on another 14 which saw them close on 143-9.
Adam took 3-46 off 10 overs – he now has 30 wickets for the season, ever reliable Scott Robinson had 2-20 off 10 overs and Gareth 2-40 off 8 overs. 19 points garnered sees us stay top 37 points clear of Pannal 3rds who slip into second spot three clear of Killinghall 2nds.

The second team have a free week as does the rest of the division.
