Mixed fortunes

1st Team

On Saturday the 1st XI was again at home, this time to South Kilvington. We won the toss and batted, and soon found ourselves 17-2. Jack Kitching was joined by skipper Morgan Davies and they galloped away, adding 208 for the third wicket. The former went for a superb 106 which included 15 fours and 2 sixes. The latter went on the same scored for a belligerent 93 of which 7 were fours and 5 were sixes. Sam Arkwright scored a breezy 14 off 8 balls and we closed on 251-6.

The visitors opened with 43 for the first wicket. After that they were never in the hunt and reached 136-6 where they lost their last four wickets for just one run. Sam Arkers and Hammaad Hussain both took 3-37 and Tom Robinson 2-33.

We gathered the full 20 points available and move up to second spot in the table.

2nd Team

The 2nd XI made the long trip to South Kilvington to take on Thirsk 3rd. Without Caspar Bean and Rory Dollard, the batting struggled to get a grip on the game. Opener Jago Bean scored 34 off 83 balls, 14-year-old Adam Harding 23 and the ageless Bob Bateman 29 to see us to 130-8 in our 40 overs. They had an 18-year-old first teamer needing “batting practice!!!” opening and he made 44 which in the scheme of things proved to be crucial. They reached 113-6 and from there things got tense. They stood at 124-9 but had a batsman who was settled, and snatched the game from us with two well hit fours as they got home by one wicket. Skipper Wormald took 3-18, Adam 3-37 and Chris Stone 2-14. (Not many of the team even knew that Stoney could bowl!!). We only gained 7 points and drop to third in the table.

JUNIORS

The u11s entertained Barnoldswick last Thursday and beat them by 73 runs. That may sound a lot but the games is pairs cricket, and a side loses 8 runs every time a player is out i.e. Jack Lovell made 16 was out once which is a net score of 8. Billy Collins scored 1 and was out once so had a net score of -7. A side starts with 200 runs, we scored 79-4 which equates to 247{79-32-47 + 200 = 247}. Adam Lovell top scored with 17.

Barnoldswick made 30-7 which equates to 174. Reece Jolly took 2-1, Adam Lovell 2-2, Hugo Brookfield-Eddison 2-8 and Rupert Smith 1-6.

On Thursday 19th the side visit Upper Wharfedale at Wood Lane Grassington.
