1st XI
We travelled to Sicklinghall and had a very fruitful day. Winning the toss, we decided to bat. Moshin Saghir and Nathan Barrett set off like an express train. They put on 85 for the first wicket with the former hitting 10×4, 1×6 in a 40-ball knock of 66. The latter was a bit more serene taking 100 balls to reach 94 with 13×4. Haroon Ali made 24 and Sam Arkwright 50no off 30 balls as the innings closed on 278-5.
Embsay’s bowlers plugged away and reduced them to 166-9 before a last wicket partnership of 33 took them to a respectable 199 all out. Haroon took 4-36 and there were two wickets each for Tom Robinson and Sam Keane, plus a wicket each for Sam and Hammaad Hussain.
We managed to claw back the three-point lead Thirsk 2nds had over us and now sit on top by the merest margin of 0.09 net run rate.
2nd XI
Knaresborough Forest 3rds were the visitors to Shires Lane. They posted a very respectable 165-7 in the overs. One of their openers anchored the innings making 63 before having to retire hurt with severe cramp with just 3 balls of the innings to go. His main accomplice was their no 9 who slapped 30no as the innings closed. Paul Wormald claimed 2-38, Tom Bailey 2-40 with one apiece for Henry Ellison and Adam Harding.
Possibly the only word to describe our reply is ruthless. Taking advantage of first teamer Tom Bailey being available we opened with him and Gareth Wooler. They took us to the points into the 24th over. Tom made a superb 104no (17×4 2×6) and Gareth 53no (8×4 1×6).
We are still 13 points clear of Pannal 3rds at the top of the league.
Under 11’s
As expected, the u11s lost away by 7 wickets to a formidable Great Horton Church in the cup semi-final.
On Thursday we travelled to Sutton and won by the enormous margin of 119 runs. We managed 95-3 off 20 overs with the highlight being 23 by Henry Pighills. Their batters were never in the hunt and managed 40-11 off their 20 overs. Net scores were 271 to 152. Olive Ratcliffe and Henry both claimed 2-1 with wickets apiece for Reece Jolly, Hugo Brookfield-Eddison, Rupert Smith and Carlie Bean.
The side took part in the Black Rat Cricket Festival held at Skipton CC on Sunday. Sadly, we took part in four games and lost them all.
The cup game scheduled for next Thursday at Darley, has been postponed to allow some of their players to attend the test match at Headingley.
Fixtures
Next Saturday, 25 June, the 1st XI travel to Markington, whilst the 2nd XI entertains Rainton 2nd with the match ball sponsored by Bowers Consulting Ltd.
