1st XI
The 1st XI travelled to Raskelf and on winning the toss decided to bat first. Opener Joe Holt led the way with a battling 48, as we reached 77 for 2 before he was out. We lost four more wickets getting to 121. Sam Arkwright was joined by Struan Mackenzie and the pair put on 94 for the 7th wicket to see us reach 215 for 6 at the end of our allotted overs. Sam made 68 not out and Struan 39 not out.
One of Raskelf’s openers had to watch as his team slumped to 37 for 4, of which he had made 10. He pushed this to 33 where he was 5th out with the score on 77. Only Sam Porter 55 not out offered much resistance as they closed on 137 for 8. Haroon Ali was the best bowler with 2 for 17 with Sam Keane taking 2 for 20, Tom Robinson 2 for 38 and Sam Arkwright 1 for 27.
We sit 2nd in the table just a point behind North Stainley.
2nd XI
Kirk Deighton were the visitors to the Billy Bobs Ice Cream Parlour sponsored Shires Lane. Their skipper won the toss and asked us to bat. On a lovely sunny day and on a perfect batting wicket we made 96 for the first wicket where Gareth Wooler went for 25. Nathan Barrett joined Caspar Bean and they took the score to 120 where the former was out for 15. Another 50 was added for the third wicket before Jago Bean perished for 18. Maaz Nayyar and Casper took the score to 213 for 4 where Caspar was bowled for a superb 122 (19 fours and 1 six). There was still time for Maaz to club 51 not out off 29 balls (8 fours and two sixes). The innings closed on 255 for 4.
We had been warned about Darren Bowes who had batted three times and scored over 170 runs without being out. He joined the fray at 21 for 1 and after just eight balls had to retire hurt as he pulled a fetlock turning quickly to get a second run. Bad luck for them but………….! The opener is Darren’s cousin and he dug in and we soon found wickets hard to come by. From 68 for 3 it went to 132 for 4, then 159 for 5, to close on 171 for 5. David Bowes finished with a super 92 off 107 balls which included 15 fours.
Veteran Scott Robinson led the bowling well with 3 for 33. Caspar Bean took 1 for 29 and 13-year-old Ben Jolly 1 for 31 off 10 overs.
We are level at the top with Killinghall 2nds, but have a better net run rate.
On Thursday evening the 2nd XI travel to Burnt Yates 2nds in the first round of the Peter Bentley cup.
Fixtures
Next Saturday the 1st XI are at home to Thornton-le-Moor with the match sponsored by Roger Tiffany Builders.
The 2nd XI travel to Killinghall 2nds in a battle of the top two.
Footnote: In Division Two of the Nidderdale League, Thornton Wanless made 403 for 8 in their innings with 128 coming from Extras which included a staggering 84 wides! Opponents Bishop Thornton, who had won the toss and elected to field, replied with 198.
