Last Saturday the 1st XI entertained Middleham at the Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour sponsored Robinson Memorial Field at Shires Lane.

The Middleham skipper won the toss and decided to go first. They lost wickets in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th over to leave them 17 for 4. A mini recovery of 52 runs saw them to 69 for 6 and then 95 for 6. The last four wickets fell for the addition 27 runs which meant they closed on 122 all out. Andrew Foulds finished with 3 for 13, Sam Arkwright 3-20, Haroon Ali 2 for 17 and there was a wicket apiece for Jack Kitching and Tom Robinson.

In reply our two openers, who are out of form at the moment, went quickly to leave us 8 for 2 after four overs. That was the last success the visitors had as Andrew Foulds 50 not out (6 fours, 2 sixes) and Tom Bailey 59 not out (10 fours and 2 sixes) took us to victory by eight wickets in the 18th over.

We remain top of the table – five points ahead of Walton Park and eleven points ahead of Ripley.

The 2nd XI visited Burton Leonard wanting to put behind them their 10 wicket drubbing of last week at Killinghall.

We won the toss and asked the 10 men homesters to bat first and it looked a good decision as they were 58 for 5 in the 16th over. A mini stand of 44 got them to 102 for 6. J Baker, who was a very unorthodox batsmen posed a few problems for the bowlers – wherever they bowled the ball he seemed to have the uncanny knack of getting bat on ball. He was eighth out, for 58 (9 fours 2 sixes), quickly followed by the last wicket as they recorded 133 all out. Casper Bean was the best bowler with 3 for 59 aided by Gareth Wooler 2 for 8, Scott Robinson 2 for 25, and a wicket apiece for Harry Ayrton and Ben Jolly.

Our reply had shades of last week as we stormed home by ten wickets in the 21st over.. Gareth hit 11 fours and 1 six in a knock of 74 not out, whilst partner Casper had 5 fours and 1 six in a knock of 47 not out.

We remain in third spot, 16 points behind Killinghall and 14 behind Whixley.

On Thursday our under 11s travel to Sutton under 11s.

Next Saturday the 1st XI travel to Walton Park, Near Wetherby, in a top of the table clash.

Meanwhile the 2nd XI are at home to Pannal 3rds in a game sponsored by Mary Hargreaves and Ellison Construction.

A heads up for the 3rd July when we once again entertain the Two Counties Seniors tourists in an over 50’s game.
