The Environmental Awareness Afternoon in April was very successful and from that emerged the Environmental Action Group which is now evolving.
The first of what is hoped to be many initiatives across the parish is the Paper Shop Garden Project.
The group is helping to create a garden patio at the side of the Paper Shop…a green space for residents, cyclists/walkers etc to sit and enjoy refreshments. This is by way of a welcome to Raj who is very keen to be involved in village life and make the Paper Shop a welcoming place. So far it has been done with fantastic help from many local volunteers who have given up their time and energy and very kind donations of all kinds of things. We are trying to keep the budget low and also to recycle/up-cycle as much as possible.
It has been encouraging to see the interest that has been shown with some very positive feedback – and it’s good to support our local shop. Amongst the many helpers for the project we’d like to thank the following for their support:
Richard Tordoff…labour
Frank Chute…labour
Trevor Kipling…labour
Woolers…wood and top soil
Candelisa…wood
Darren Best…wood chippings
All Plants North…compost
David Hill …chairs
Tea on the Green …tables
Pam & Milan Davidovic…wood preservative
Johnny…sign writing
Group members…Robin, Derek, Paul, Mike and Carole.
Donations of plants…many individuals!
All Plants North garden centre will be selling some of their plants and compost from the garden during the summer.
The project still requires 2 garden chairs in good condition.
The Environmental Group hope to accomplish more projects…so please get in touch with ideas and any donations are also welcome.
