1st XI
The 1st XI travelled to Walton Park, which is near Wetherby, to tackle the second placed team in the league. Short of Skipper Morgan Davies, vice-captain Sam Arkwright and Jack Kitching – who’s wedding it was on Saturday. Also missing was Struan Mackenzie – which meant a chunk of our bowling attack was missing! We won the toss and batted first and lost Mo Saghir for 8 with the score on 8, then Joe Holt went for 2 – 31 for 2. There followed a third wicket partnership of 114 between Andrews Foulds and Tom Stead which ended in the 27th over when the former went for 89 (9 fours and 5 sixes). Tom followed 9 runs later for 37 (5 fours and 1 six), to leave us 154 for 4 with 12 overs to go. We lost out way at this stage and could only add 52 in the 12 overs for the loss of three more wickets.
They got off to a positive start reaching 62 for 2 in the 13th over. A stand of 112 for the third wicket when their opener O Hills was caught on the boundary for 72 (11 fours and 1 six). That left them 7 overs to score 32 with 8 wickets left. The bowlers stuck to their task and claimed four more wickets but couldn’t prevent them romping home in the 37th over. Mo was the most successful bowler with 2 for 20. Sam Keane took 2 for 59, Andrew 1 for 17 and Haroon 1 for 47.
So, Walton Park takes over top spot in the table with us and Ripley 5 points behind in joint second.
2nd XI
Visitors to Billy Bob’s Ice Cream sponsored Robinson Memorial Field on Saturday were Pannal 3rds, who won the toss and decided to bat. Their opener chivvied things along and they had reached 120 for 4 in the 34th over. On the same score the opener went for 79. The last six overs could only muster 24 as we claimed another 4 wickets. Jago Bean was the best bowler with 3 for 41. Stephen Speak, playing his first game since badly dislocating his shoulder in 2021, took 2 for 11 off 5 overs, Gareth Wooler took 2for 26 and Casper Bean 1 for 15. Casper with 75 (11 fours and 3 sixes) led our successful reply. He and Gareth Wooler, 22, put on 76 for the third wicket. Casper was third out with the score on 108. George Keane, 15, helped the score to 139 before he was out. Veteran Bob Bateman went for a duck at 140. It was left to our junior players, Thomas Mountain 11 not out, and Ben Jolly 3 not out to sees us to the points by five wickets in the 31st over.
Leaders Killinghall II were in fine fettle at home to Kirk Deighton, smashing 299 for 1 off their 40 overs. Second placed Whixley’s game at home to Burnt Yates 2nds was abandoned after 15 overs. So, we are still 16 points behind Killinghall and now only 4 points behind Whixley.
Fixtures
On Tuesday the 1st XI are at home to Rainton in the semi final of the Barrett Cup with a 6-30pm start.
Next Saturday the 1st XI are at home to North Stainley with the match sponsored by Ann Horner and A O Joinery. The 2nd XI travel to take on Pannal Ash who play at Little Ribston.
