Embsay Cricket Club

On the evening of Friday 24th October, the Club had a presentation evening at the Cavendish Arms.

A green flag with a gold emblem, fluttering against a clear blue sky.

After a short introduction, Chairman Trevor Coe thanked the following:

Our tea ladies and Rachel Robinson for providing the best teas in the League.

Our groundsman Scott Robinson and his helpers for continuing to prepare excellent cricket wickets.

Our scorers.

Our Captains and players for their efforts during the season.

Our junior coaches, helpers and Mark Walters for their splendid efforts looking after our junior teams from under 9s to under 13s.

Our fantastic sponsors of which there are now numerous.

And lastly our faithful supports.

Next, importantly I come onto our trophy winners:

1st XI: batting – Jack Kitching, bowling – Sam Arkwright, fielding – Nathan Barrett. Hargreaves Merit Trophy – Sam Arkwright.

2nd XI: batting Caspar – Bean, bowling – Caspar Bean, fielding – Matt Buckmaster, Stephen Lawson Merit Trophy – Caspar Bean.

Sammy Mawson Fielding Trophy – Nathan Barrett.

Phillip Fearnley Batting Trophy – Jack Kitching – 133 not out v Thornton Watlass.

Josh Bell Bowling Trophy – Sam Keane – 6-19 v Middleham.

Edgar Greenwood Trophy for most improved junior – Thomas Mountain.

1st XI player’s player of the year – Sam Arkwright

2nd XI player’s player of the year – Ben Jolly.

Chris Davies Junior Merit Trophy – Rueben Barratt.

Poser of the Year – Ben Keane – for getting married on a Saturday during the cricket season and decimating the first team.

Chairman’s trophy – For his 34 years as our Treasurer, and other things – Simon Holt.

The Maureen Robinson Trophy – a gentleman who has been a member of the club since he was a “youff”. He played junior cricket, 2nd XI cricket, 1st XI cricket, a side he captained for several years. He stepped back to the 2nd XI and captained them through one of their most successful times. He has helped with the ground for years and still does. He occasionally turns out for 2nd XI even at the age of 72. The winner is….“Our Al”, Alan Robinson.

The presentation was followed by pie and peas.
