
ATKINSON/SWIRE CUP 2ND ROUND
On Thursday the 1st XI made the short trip up the dale to take on Upper Wharfedale. We won the toss and elected to field first. They made 169 for 7 in the 20 overs, thanks mainly to overseas player Jamie McPhee who smashed 6 fours and 7 sixes in a 41-ball knock of 80. Sam Arkwright claimed 3 for 28, Mo Saghir 2 for 34 with Haroon Ali and Jack Kitching also taking a wicket apiece.
Our reply got off to a reasonable start of 34 for the first wicket. We lost another at 42 before we progress to 71 for 3. Another three wickets fell in the 70’s to leave us floundering on 79 for 6. Some tail wagging saw us to 122 where the last wicket fell. Defeat by 47 runs. Sam top scored with 34, Mo made 19 and Hammaad Hussain 17.
SATURDAY 24TH MAY
The 1st XI entertained Sicklinghall at the Billy Bob Ice Cream Parlour ground. We won the toss and elected to field. They opened with 39 before three quick wickets reduced them to 44 for 3. They progressed to 115 where the fourth wicket fell, as the Jack Kitching/Andrew Foulds show took over. Left Hander C Whitehall-Sharkey threatened to take the game away from us before Andrew had him caught behind for 59. Their innings closed on 177 with Jack claiming 4 for 27 and Andrew 3 for 14.
We lost a wicket with just two on the board. The next wicket fell at 120 with Morgan Davies falling for 31. Andrew made 10 before he fell on 136. Josh Robinson was enjoying himself whilst this was going on. He was fourth out on 163 having made 82 off 75 balls which included 13 fours and 2 sixes. Mo Saghir 22no and Jack 11 not out steered us to a six-wicket victory which moves us up to seventh in the table.
The 2nd XI were at Blubberhouses who won the toss and chose to bat first. They posted 191 for 6 with M Khan scoring a maiden half century finishing on 64 which included five sixes and four fours. He benefited from being dropped twice as did M Gilliam. Ben Jolly took 3 for 60 whilst both Hammaad Hussain, 1 for 30 and Caspar Bean 0 for 27 bowled well without any luck.
We got off to a steady start of 40 for the first wicket where Matt Buckmaster perished for 20. His opening partner Thomas Mountain went next at 64, having made 17. A partnership of 60 took us to 124 for 3 in the 31st over, where Caspar Bean went for 37. Hammaad followed 11 runs later for 40. It was going to be touch and go for us to reach our target. Ben Jolly and Mark Walters got us to 169 for 5 in the 38th over. We lost wickets at 170 and 171 in the 39th over. The target now was to get to 175 for an extra batting point. Skipper Wormald duly crashed two fours to get that, and we closed on 182 for 7. In total we claimed 8 bonus points which sees us remain in third spot.
This Saturday the 1st XI are at home again, this time against Whixley, whilst the 2nd XI travels to Raskelf. The match ball sponsors are A. O. Joinery and Bullough Cleaning Services
