First Team

League leaders Newton-le-Willows visited the Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour sponsored ground last Saturday. We won the toss and put them into bat. They had reached 73 for 2 and then mayhem broke out as they lost eight wickets for twelve runs! Only opener Dave Kettle, 47 not out, stood firm as eight batsmen failed to score. All the damage was don by Tom Stead, 5 for 17, and Andrew Foulds, 4-18.

We slipped to 22 for 2 before Harry West, 25, and Andrew, 21, took the score to 72. We then suffered a little hiccup before reaching their total for the loss of six wickets.

We get a welcome 20 points and climb one place to ninth. Next Saturday we make the shortish trip to Darley.

Second Team

The 2nd XI travelled to Birstwith, who won the toss and elected to bat first. We ran into their skipper, D Robinson, who was in great form and made 120 (17×4 3×6) from 102 balls. He was third out with the score on 196. Here there was a clatter of wickets as they lost five getting to 207 for 8. Gareth Sharpe taking 4 for 19 and Ben Jolly 2 for 30 with a wicket apiece for Matt Buckmaster and Hayden Barrett. We slipped to 15 for 2, before skipper Nathan Brown and Ben took the score to 90 for 3 where the latter went for 21. Nathan and Gareth took the score to 147 for 4 where the latter departed for 21.

It was our turn to suffer a collapse, losing five wickets for thirteen runs. Paul Wormald offered resistance with a battling 16 not out, as the innings ended on 177 all out. We get 9 points which sees us remain in eight place in the table. Next Saturday we are at home to Spennithorne and Harmby 1st XI. The ball sponsors are R N Wooler & Co and Ellison Construction.
