First Eleven
The 1st XI were away to Knaresborough Forest and on losing the toss were asked to bat first. Mo Saghir went for 21 and Nathan Barrett 4 to leave us 29 for 2. Skipper Morgan Davies and Josh Robinson, 22, upped the score to 64 for 3. Then Sam Arkwright, 24, pushed it to 104 for 4. From there wickets tumbled regularly as we reached 147 all out with Morgan being last out for a hard earned 54.
We got a wicket with the score on 2. From there it was crash, bang, wallop as they raced towards our total. A slight hiccup at 120 before charging home by eight wickets in the 18th over, Veteran Scott Robinson took 1 for 42 and Mo 1 for 9. For them R O’Sullivan scored a blistering 75 not out from 40 balls, which included 14 fours and 1 six. We slip back to next to bottom in the table.
Second Eleven
The 2nd XI were embroiled in a cat and mouse game at home to 10 man Knaresborough Forest 2nds. They won the toss and invited us to go first. We made a good start of 62 for the first wicket where Danny Horne went for a 50 ball 52 (8 fours and 2 sixes). The score was pushed to 135 where young Thomas Mountain was dismissed for 49. Another two wickets went as the score reached 176. We had reached 181 for 8 when the innings ended.
At 46 for 3 we seemed to have things under control. The score preceded to 141 for 7. One highlight being a stunning catch by skipper Paul Wormald. The batter doesn’t realise how unlucky he was!!! With their skipper still at the crease they still had a chance of pinching the spoils. He lost one partner at 155 and with overs in hand the gap was closing. Then George Maloney produced a peach of a ball to bowl him for 27 and they fell 17 runs short of their target. We didn’t help ourselves by bowling 23 wides! George finished with 3 for 17, evergreen Neville Allen 2 for 23, Harry Ayrton 2 for 37 and Paul 2 for 60.
The League tables had another adjustment during the week following the withdrawal of Bishop Monkton. Whilst we lose 28 points, we are in fourth place. We have 8 games to play where as others have only 6 or 7 to play.
The week the 1st XI are at home in a must win game against Kirk Deighton who are just six points ahead of us.
The 2nd XI are away to second in the League, Killinghall.
