Did you know that 92 million tons of clothes end up in landfill every year?

We can prevent this by keeping our clothes for longer, buying second hand or swapping clothes that we are tired of.

I am busy having a good sort out of all our clothes (his and hers) because very soon the Fairtrade Group are having a Swishing event (a chance to do a clothes swap and take home some used but good secondhand clothes.) I always look forward to this event because it’s a combination of some relaxed shopping and a lovely social evening. There will be delicious home baked goodies and Fairtrade refreshments included in the price of £5 plus a chance to win a Fairtrade gift.

You also have the great feeling of helping the environment by recycling and supporting a good cause as any profits will go to a charity called Fashion Revolution. This is a not-for-profit global movement that campaigns for a fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people over profit.

The event is held in the old Methodist Chapel on the evening of Friday 16th February and the poster gives all the information about dropping clothes off beforehand or on the night. All kinds of clothes and accessories in good condition are acceptable including children’s. Any remaining will be donated to Oxfam or clothes banks.

Hope to see you there and get sorting!
