One Swallow does not make a summer.

Embsay resident Michelle Tate spotted a lone Swallow on Monday 17th above the fields just south of Embsay Beck and Pasture Road, and 5 or 6 more swooping low across the same spot earlier this evening. The saying ‘One Swallow does not make a summer’ is an accurate observation as they first arrive from wintering in Africa in ones and twos. Usually it’s not until later this month that they can be spotted in greater numbers, heralding the arrival of warmer times ahead.
