What a glorious weekend for cricket! The two senior teams recorded three victories.
Match reports
The 1st XI were at home to Haworth Road and batting first rattled up 230-7 with Andrew Foulds scoring a superb 96, Mohsin Saghir 45 and Sam Arkwright 29 not out. In reply the Baildon Bottom side made 161 with the wickets being shared between 7 bowlers.
The 2nd XI travelled to Denholme and figured in a very tight finish, winning by just 6 runs. We batted first and posted 185 with Dom Kay making 54, Jack Andrews 26 and Hammaad Hussain 25. The homesters chipped away steadily although we claimed wickets at regular intervals. The final over with 12 required to win with one wicket left. The skipper entrusted the bowling to 14-year-old Adam Harding. The first ball – a single, the second ball – a four. However, in trying to stop the boundary, Stephen Speak, running around the boundary, dived and landed heavily causing his shoulder to dislocate. The stoppage in play lasted about 15 minutes. So back to the last four balls. Adam kept his composure so much so that only one run was scored and we had the points which sees us remain top of the table.
On Sunday the 2ndXI were at home to Bradley in the quarter final of the Cowling Cup. Bradley won the toss and chose to bat. At the end of their 20 overs they had scored 71-9. Young Mr Harding finished with 3-11 off his allotted overs – in addition to taking two catches. Dom Kay took 2-7, Paul Wormald 2-14 with a wicket each for Henry Ellison and Casper Bean. We lost three wickets achieving victory by 7 wickets in the 9th over.
The competition now has a finals day at Airedale CC on the 22nd August. We face the challenge of Riddlesden, second in the league, in the semi-final. At this time, we are not sure of a start time.
Last week the u15s had a good win against Skipton B. We batted first and made 122-3 in our overs with Cassian Chandler and Hammaad Hussain both making 35 ret, and Adam Harding 20. They were restricted to 98-9 with George Keane 2-6 and Henry Mounsey 2-22 being the best bowlers.
